Journal CoverInside the winter 2011 edition

The winter Journal is crammed full of articles to round off the year, starting with a heartfelt Christmas message to Army families from the Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Peter Wall. There’s a useful guide for families on redundancy in our feature and a busy roundup of AFF’s work during 2011, including AFF’s Roadshows around the UK.

We hear from one Army spouse who successfully returned to higher education, plus there’s some guidance on the Government’s Work Programme for Army spouses. Our Education pages focus on Special Educational and Additional Needs support for Army families and we finally hear the news we’ve been waiting for on the Continuity of Education Allowance. Our AFF Housing Specialist advises us on the importance of getting liability insurance for those living in Service Families Accommodation and we have tips on protecting your quarter from the winter weather. In TA news, we have a snapshot of the fascinating work of British war artists. Finally, do encourage younger members of the Army community to take a look at our Kids’ Corner page, which they are welcome to contribute to. EDITOR - Charlotte Eadie

At this time of year my thoughts are with the many Army families spending Christmas apart from their soldier and those who have lost loved ones on operations.
