About our volunteers
Working together, our volunteers and staff help thousands of Army families every year in getting their voices heard and changes made for the better.
Our volunteers work to help AFF understand the needs of Army families wherever they live and ensure all families know about us and what we can do for them.
There are volunteers working in the majority of our branches in GB, Germany and Cyprus. We also have volunteers in other countries including Kenya, Kuwait and the Falklands.
We have lots of different types of volunteers from Trustees, who ensure that the charity is run effectively to overseas volunteers who are our eyes and ears in far-flung locations around the world.
Interested in getting involved?
You can find out more about the different volunteer roles that we have available below.

Trustees
Our Trustees are responsible for making sure that our charity is being run effectively. Our Trustees work together as part of a Board to take the big decisions about the future. They ensure everything is legal and safe; that the finances are secure and well managed and that the work of the charity is being carried out in accordance with its mission and objectives.
Our Trustees have to believe in what AFF does and stands for and be generous with their time and support. We look to recruit onto the Board a range of people who can bring specific skills and/or an awareness of issues affecting Army families.
You can find out more about our current Board of Trustees here.
Think you could be a Trustee?
We currently have a vacancy for a Cyprus branch Trustee. Full details are provided in the vacancy package. If you experience problems completing the interactive application form click here for the Word version.
If there isn’t a current Trustee vacancy or a position appropriate for your location or circumstances, you may wish to simply register your interest. If you think you would be interested in becoming a Trustee in the future and would like to register your interest then please send your CV to volmanager@aff.org.uk and we’ll be in touch. Or, you can contact our Volunteer Manager for further information.
Overseas volunteers
We recognise that being part of a serving soldier’s family means living an unusual life and perhaps not more so than when you accompany them on an overseas posting.
In addition to Germany and Cyprus, there are also families living in over 13 countries around the world where there can be sometimes as few as a handful of families.
Our overseas volunteers help us to understand the unique concerns of Army families where they live and let families know about AFF and what we can do for them. They also make sure that everyone is receiving the Journal.
Would you like to be an overseas volunteer?
We are currently looking for volunteers in Brunei, Gibraltar, Nepal, Italy (Naples / Milan), the Falklands, USA, Turkey, Portugal and Norway.
If you think you would be interested in volunteering, or would like more information please contact Lowena Rich, Volunteer Manager, on volmanager@aff.org.uk or 07748608710, for more details or an application form.
If you live overseas in a country that is not listed above and would like to get involved then please get in touch and we can look at what opportunities there might be in your area.
Don’t want to volunteer, but have a few hours to spare?
If you would like to help, but don’t have the time to volunteer, we are also looking for people in overseas locations to fill in a questionnaire about where they live. These invaluable questionnaires help us to understand what life is like for Army families living in that area and what their needs are.
If you would like to take part then please email volmanager@aff.org.uk letting us know where you live and we’ll send you a questionnaire.
