AFF Cyprus - What we are working on

Foreign & Commonwealth

Families continue to contact us from throughout BFC about a whole host of F&C issues ranging from advice about passports for babies born in the SBAs to visa issues to advice on citizenship.

We are always here to help F&C families in conjunction with J1, UWOs  and other welfare staff.  If you have any F&C related questions please remember that a whole host of information can be found on the Cyprus F&C pages of our website.

Money

With allowance cuts (for example Local Overseas Allowance), a lack of employment for spouses compared to the UK and a relatively high cost of living in Cyprus, an increasing number of families are approaching us saying that they are facing financial difficulties. Quite often it is young families who seek our help since they have scant experience of looking after their finances. With the help of charitable and battalion funds (where appropriate) and advice from AFF and other welfare agencies the most urgent cases have been addressed. However, AFF is constantly monitoring the frequency and seriousness of this nature of enquiry.

If you are experiencing any financial difficulties then please let us know so that we can advise or signpost you accordingly and so that we can feed that information, on an anonymous basis, to the appropriate people in BFC.

Deployment

Since one of the island’s two infantry battalions is Theatre Reserve Battalion at any one time and other soldiers deploy on an individual basis from Cyprus, we regularly receive a variety of enquiries related to deployment.

Examples of such enquiries are operational welfare package related queries (for both the deployed soldier and the family left behind) and questions to do with R&R.

We strongly encourage families to contact us with any deployment related questions, particularly 2 YORKS families who are currently TRB.
